MVD is gearing up to release My Only Friend’s A Corpse (2026) as a special-edition Blu-ray and DVD. Featuring a director’s commentary and cast and crew interviews, this recent American Indie horror-comedy can be now be ordered directly from MVD.

Delightfully unhinged and funny, My Only Friend’s A Corpse is an entertaining micro-budget Midwest-conceived and shot film. A passion project for writer, director, and special-effects artist Jack Bayless, My Only Friend’s A Corpse is an endearingly goofy little movie. Running just shy of seventy minutes, Bayless’ debut zips by, and its loving DIY spirit makes up for some of its narrative inconsistencies.

Local loser Danny stumbles across a feeding undead corpse next to a dumpster one evening. Convinced he has to murder God to save the planet, Danny and his zombiefied Bernie buddy hit the road to carnage. My Only Friend’s A Corpse is a very strange picture. Strange and original. Bayless’ script doesn’t always work, but there are aspects of My Only Friend’s A Corpse that I haven’t seen before, at least presented like this, and it is refreshing.

Shot for just around three grand in Kansas, My Only Friend’s A Corpse is a hard film to hate, or even dislike. Made with obvious love by Bayless’ friends and locals from the Wichita area, this inspired film has some great practical effects, memorable one-liners, and a strong young ensemble. It wears its influences like Evil Dead 2 and Return of the Living Dead proudly and it Bayless handles the humor mixed with horror well.

A great-looking and especially sounding low-budget digitally shot work, My Only Friend’s A Corpse’s biggest flaw is that there is just too much plot here for its brief length. Had Bayless allowed another ten or fifteen minutes, My Only Friend’s A Corpse would probably have been even more successful. So, not everything works, but as seen on the interview reel, Jack Bayless looks like he is about 20 years old so he’s got plenty of time to work out the odd kink for his next project. The fact that he and his team got a regionally shot movie made in 2025 America is triumph enough.

MVD’s Blu-ray of My Only Friend’s A Corpse comes with an attractive slipcover, reversible sleeve and the bonus features are sweet. The hard work and friendship shine through on both the interview reel and commentary. Fans of micro-budget cinema and DIY art in general will absolutely want to check out this memorable oddity. Congratulations to Jack Bayless and his team for making a movie, getting it screened, and now getting it a home video release.
That’s boss-business.
