Donald Farmer’s BLOOD BITCH BABY (2024) on Blu-ray from Bloodsick

BloodSick Productions continues its fun modern Blu-ray SOV line with Donald Farmer’s Blood Bitch Baby (2024). A Tennessee-shot micro-budget take on the Countess Bathory story, Blood Bitch Baby is a sometimes effective if lovingly goofy horror film featuring a delightful little demon puppet.

The Kansas-born cult figure Donald Farmer has directed nearly fifty features and shorts in as many years. A former Tennessee reporter, he published the influential Splatter Times as well. Known for titles like Red Lips (1995) and Demon Queen (1987), Farmer is also the man behind The Bizarre World of Jess Franco (1983), a film that offered many of us the first video interview we’d seen with Franco and Lina Romay. A walking film encyclopedia, Farmer has carved out a distinctive and prolific career that has earned him much love, and he continues going strong.

Age indeed isn’t slowing Farmer, who has made ten films in just the past five years. Blood Bitch Baby is amongst his newest films, and it is a fun one. Starring the very charismatic Angel Nichole Bradford as a young woman whose afternoon is spoiled after she accidentally gets impregnated with a hellspawn demon baby, Blood Bitch Baby has its tongue firmly planted in cheek and that’s the best way to watch it as well.

Farmer knows what he’s doing with films like Blood Bitch Baby, and he gets things done quickly. Running less than 70 minutes Blood Bitch Baby has all of the (well) blood, boobs, and jokes fans will no doubt expect from Farmer. Along with Bradford’s performance, the best thing about the film is the endearing demon infant puppet that occasionally pops up, giving the film an endearing, nostalgic fifties sci-fi feel.

Blood Bitch Baby isn’t amongst Farmer’s best films, but it is a perfectly entertaining SOV entry. Fans of the genre will find much to enjoy here, and Bloodsick has done a nice job bringing it to Blu-ray. Extras are slim, in the form of trailers and a BTS reel of photos, but we are treated to a video introduction by Farmer. This is most noteworthy as he’s joined by fellow filmmaker Kasper Meltedhair, whose Bloodsick release Busted Babies (2024) impressed me so much recently.

Order Blood Bitch Baby direct from Bloodsick or from MVD.
