Cleopatra Records continues its line of DVD releases with the 2025 horror film, The Behemoth. This British, German, French co-production was known as Le Béhémoth overseas and this Cleopatra release marks its debut on American shores. Order now at Cleopatra or MVD.

A folky cult-based horror film, The Behemoth is a fairly standard low-budget chiller, distinguished by some fairly good practical effects. Written and directed by Kai E. Bogatzki, The Behemoth never completely breaks away from the many films that inspired it but it isn’t a bad little work at all.

Starring a cast of players well-known in the UK indie horror community, The Behemoth has a fairly strong ensemble. Sadly, Bogatzki’s screenplay never gives any of the performers any real room for development but the cast does their best essaying confusion and fear throughout.

A fairly well-done film technically, The Behemoth’s familiarity is its biggest fault. Neither Bogatzki’s script or direction ever successfully distinguishes The Behemoth from any of the thousand similar horror films that came before (and will come after). That said, this isn’t a bad afternoon watch and horror fans will certainly appreciate the practical effects over CGI.

Cleopatra’s DVD is pretty bare-bones save for some trailers but it is priced to move under 20 bucks. The Behemoth is a standard modern indie horror film, fairly well-made and sincere. Kai E. Bogatzki shows some promise behind the camera and at just 82 minutes, The Behemoth never outstays its welcome.
